In the panel, they joked that YA books might be mislabeled. That they should just call it “Books That Don’t Suck.” And despite the complaints I’ve written in my reviews about the YA books I’ve read, and the things I will complain about in the future, I tend to agree. YA books are fun. Margo Lanagan said that back when she was writing in the 90s, YA was mostly gritty, realistic fiction but now the genre has surged and broadened. Paranormal, fantasy, science-fiction, dystopian, coming of age … there’s something for everyone to love, and the numbers won’t be slowing down anytime soon.
